The First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, will visit Kenya in the "next month or so", the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs (CS) Alfred Mutua has said.
According to Mutua, Jill, the wife of President Joe Biden, will come to Kenya in February or March to honour an invitation by Kenya's First Lady Rachel Ruto.
Rachel extended an invitation to Jill on December 15, 2022, when the American first family hosted their Kenyan counterparts at the White House in Washington DC.
President Ruto and his spouse were in the foreign nation's capital for the US-Africa leadership summit.
"The First Lady of the US will be in the country in the next one month or so. She'll be honouring an invitation by her Kenyan counterpart Rachel Ruto.
"Her visit will be centered on a number of issues, including how the US can support Kenya's education and the monitoring of US initiatives in the country, including development programmes," Dr Mutua told The Standard on phone on Thursday, January 19.
Jill Biden, a professor of English, is a lifelong educator who has spent the better part of her career highlighting the importance of community colleges to Americans, and raising awareness on women and breast cancer prevention.
CS Mutua said more comprehensive details about Jill's visit to Kenya will be released soon.
The minister first disclosed Jill Biden's planned to visit to Kenya on the Jeff Koinange Live on Citizen Television on Wednesday, January 18.
"As Kenya's Foreign Affairs ministry, we are thinking more of trade [with foreign nations] rather than [seeking] aid," he said.
"We want to take care of Kenyans, we want to provide opportunities to Kenyans to get international jobs, we want to be able to open trade opportunities for Kenyans who are overseas," said Mutua during the television interview.
