Police have launched investigations into a person claiming to be a pastor for allegedly preaching false doctrines to its members in Baringo County.

County Commissioner Stephen Kutwa told The Standard that investigations on the alleged pastor and three other members were ongoing in efforts to establish the truth behind the church's teachings.

The pastor from Karnee Village, in Mochongoi within Baringo South sub-county is accused of brainwashing members against seeking healthcare services.

Mr Kutwa observed that the pastor claimed to be using the power of fire to heal believers. "We are investigating the church for allegedly administering false doctrines to their worshipers," he said. "From our investigations, we have established that the church's headquarters is in Kitale and the pastor has been denying members access to medication, but we will not stop until we solve the puzzle."

Sunday service

Kutwa explained that the church has been operating for two years without a structure as they conduct their Sunday services at home.

The Standard has established that during the arrest, two Bibles in Kiswahili and Kalenjin, four Bible teachings and books with coded mathematics notes were recovered from the pastor's house.

The four were taken in for questioning as detectives continued with their investigations. Kapkechir sub-location assistant chief William Cheboi said that on Monday, he rescued a member of the church who was locked inside the pastor's house.

This is after the family members and elders called Cheboi seeking help to rescue their loved one who had been locked in without access to medications. The chief says the pastor told him the patient would not be cured as he had yet to accept the prayers.

Cheboi said the pastor has been brainwashing his members against seeking medication from the hospitals, promising them that he has the power to heal through prayers.
