169 people dead, 91missing as floods wreak havoc nationwide

At least 169 people have lost their lives due to the devastating floods sweeping across various parts of the country. 

The latest statistics from the Ministry of Interior reveal that an additional 102 individuals have been injured, with 91 still missing and countless others displaced.

The floods have affected an estimated 190,942 individuals nationwide. 

“Mai Mahiu accounts for 53 of these missing persons while Garissa has reported 16 missing persons,” states a press release from the Ministry, led by Kithure Kindiki.

The government has identified Nairobi, Tana River, Homa Bay, and West Pokot Counties as the areas most severely impacted by the floods in the last 24 hours. 

“A total of 169 lives have been lost due to the floods. Notably, the mudslide in Mai Mahiu claimed 46 lives; Garissa reported 4 lives lost while Sindo, Homa Bay, reported another 4 fatalities,” the statement added.

Currently, search, rescue, and retrieval operations are underway, particularly in Nakuru, following the recent mudslide.
