A woman is among four people who have been charged for illegally presenting themselves as lawyers.
Faith Yvonne Shakila alias Miriam was accused of presenting a client as lawyer Miriam Bikeyo. She was presented before Senior Principal Magistrate Monica Maroro and denied the charge.
The charges read that on May 12 at Kibera Law Courts in Kibra sub-county, Shakila was found pretending and practising as an advocate.
She was remanded awaiting her bond ruling application on Wednesday next week.
Shakila was arrested by the rapid action team of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) in Nairobi after they received information that someone was masquerading as an advocate.
In a combined force of Kibera police officers and an LSK team led by Steve Mbugua and Gloria Kimani, Shakila was arrested at the court on Thursday.
After the arrest, LSK members and police located the real Miriam Bikeyo, who recorded a statement at Kibera Police Station.
It was established that the suspect was impersonating an advocate who is currently a researcher at the Judiciary.
