Eight teams are lining up for the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Central Regional finals set for this weekend at Wang'uru Stadium in Kirinyaga County.

The sides (four boys and four girls’ teams) to battle for glory are Barcelona FC (Laikipia), Kartzville FC (Kirinyaga), St. Joseph Sec (Murang’a) and Kiwanja Queens (Kiambu).

Others are Karatina Homeboyz (Nyeri), Lysa FC (Laikipia), Kiaga Sec (Kirinyaga) and M-PESA Foundation (Kiambu).

Winners in the boys’ and girls' categories will represent the region in the national finals set for Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu next month.

While flagging off the Central Regional finals at Nice Town in Mwea yesterday, Safaricom PLC CEO Peter Ndegwa stated: “The Central Regional finals marks our last regional finals before we proceed to the national finals to be held in Kisumu in a month's time. Hence, we are delighted to officially flag off the event, and throughout the week, we will be engaging our customers from the region, offering them free digital and financial literacy, among other services, just as we have done in other parts of the country."

Ahead of the flag-off, there was a free Medical Camp hosted by the M-PESA Foundation in partnership with Zuri Health and Lion SightFirst Eye Hospital at Thiba North Grounds in Mwea last Saturday which benefited over 3000 residents.

Today there will be free digital and financial literacy training, which will take place at the Nice Town Hotel.

This training is designed for Boda Boda riders, vendors, small business operators, shopkeepers, and others who are Safaricom customers in the region. Its aim is to impart knowledge that fosters a culture of saving and enhances preparedness for credit and investment opportunities.

Additionally, there will be players and coaches’ clinics which will feature valuable lessons in skill development, social values, teamwork, and leadership.

Coaches will gain insights into effective training methods, tactical approaches, and ways to motivate and communicate with players.

The clinic will also involve training on the use of Safaricom’s newly introduced GPS Sports Vests, which are AI-powered to improve players' performance and open up scouting opportunities. They are used to capture data about players, including total distance, speed, power plays, power scores, among others. This allows players to understand their strengths and weaknesses, identify areas for improvement, and more.

Furthermore, Safaricom Foundation will also have a partners' forum in the region where they will cascade and disseminate the 2024 strategic agenda for the region in key sectors of education, health and economic empowerment.
