17 die, 284 test positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours

Kenya has recorded 284 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, a positivity rate of 6.3 per cent, raising the country's caseload to 171,942.

The Health Ministry said in a statement on June 4 that the new infections were discovered in 4,540 samples taking the cumulated tests conducted so far to 1,826,756.

Out of the new patients, 157 are male, whereas 127 are female, with the youngest carrier a one-month-old infant, and the oldest aged 91.

The total recoveries so far stand at 117,469 after 124 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 27 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 97 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 85,291 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 32,178 are from various hospitals countrywide.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 3,240 after 17 were confirmed dead in the last 24 hours.

A total of 1,207 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,946 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Ninety-six (96) patients are in the Intensive Care Unit, 23 of whom are on ventilatory support and 60 on supplemental oxygen. 13 patients are on observation.

Another 92 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 85 of them in general wards and seven (7) in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination

Kenya has as of today, vaccinated 974,000 against the Covid-19 disease countrywide.

Of these 295,202 are aged 58 years and above together with others, Health workers are 166,043, teachers so far vaccinated are 152,962, security officers 82, 586 while 277,207 are the other categories.
