Mombasa, Kenya: President Uhuru Kenyatta this morning travelled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to attend an IGAD meeting on the South Sudan peace process.

The plane carrying President Kenyatta and his entourage departed Moi International Airport, Mombasa, shortly before 10.00 a.m.

Yesterday, the Head of State joined hundreds of invited guests at the colourful wedding of Naeem Balala and Safiya Omar Sherman at the exclusive Vipingo Ridge in Kilifi County.

The groom, Naeem, is the son of Mining Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala while the bride, Safia, is the daughter of Mr Omar Sherman, a prominent lawyer.

The wedding was consummated by Ustadh Sharif Abdulqadir Hyder.

The President congratulated the newly wedded couple and wished them God’s blessings as they settle down to start family life.

“You are in our prayers and we know you will build a successful family and build a successful future because the foundation that you are from has shown us what you can be. Your father has set a good example,” President Kenyatta said.

President Kenyatta said attending the purely Islamic wedding ceremony exhibits Kenya’s rich multi-cultural and multi-racial heritage.

He emphasised that Kenya is a country that accepts people from different cultures and different religions, living together in peace and harmony.

“This is our desire. This is what we want to see – people accepting and living together in the spirit of mutual respect,” the President said.

Mr Balala exhorted family values, saying they formed the foundation for a successful nation.
