Hospital opens new mother and baby wing to expand services

Access to maternal and healthcare services has been enhanced in North Rift and adjacent regions after St Luke's Orthopaedic and Trauma Hospital opened a modern mother and baby wing.

The hospital in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County has launched a new facility offering specialised in and out-patient medical services.

The development will boost public-private healthcare provision, minimise complications and curb mortality rates.

In partnership with Uasin Gishu county government, the hospital will ensure mothers access quality maternity services.

Speaking during the launch of the 15 mother and baby wing, Hospital Director Mary Lelei said they are committed to provide efficient treatment of mothers and infants.

She said the facility has capacity to handle all cases through its specialised medical staff and modern facilities.

“Maternal health is key in society and that’s why we are expanding our service provision to address this section. We want to assure Kenyans that the hospital has enough modern machines and adequate doctors,” said Mrs Lelei.

She said the facility has also lined up sensitisation programmes where medical experts will guide and counsel mothers on best ways of caring for their young ones and detect health challenges and solutions before and after delivery.

She urged Kenyans particularly those from Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Trans Nzoia, Elgeyo Marakwet and Western Kenya regions to utilise medical services offered by the hospital.

“Our doors are open for any patient with medical challenges that can be handled both on outpatient and inpatient sections," she said.

Uasin Gishu County First Lady Salina Bii, who was chief guest, appreciated the hospital for its initiatives in health care provision.

Mrs Bii also thanked the hospital for the partnership. “The hospital is best known for its specialised orthopedic services and the specialised maternity care will enhance service provision in all fields," said Bii.
