Covid-19: Five dead as Kenya records 199 new cases

Kenya has recorded 199 new positive coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours increasing the caseload to 88,579.

The cases come from a sample size of 2,416, increasing the total tests done to 934,215.

Of those infected, 177 are Kenyans while 22 are foreigners. In terms of gender 123 of those infected are male, while 76 are females.

Still, in the demographics, the oldest person who contracted the virus in the past 24 hours is 90 years and the youngest is a three-year-old baby.

Fortunately, 485 patients have recovered from the disease, 416 from the home-based care program while 69 have been discharged from various hospitals. The total number of recoveries now stand at 69,414.

There are 1,171 patients admitted in different health facilities across the country with 8,127 on home-based isolation and care, 83 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 40 on ventilator support and 42 on supplementary oxygen.

“Another 70 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 62 are in general wards. 8 are in High Decency Unit (HDU),” read the statement by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

A statement from MOH says that one patient is under observation.

Sadly, 5 patients have succumbed to the virus, increasing the fatalities to 1,531.

Distribution

Nairobi continues leading with 77 positive cases followed by Mombasa with 21, Busia 20, Uasin Gishu 19, Meru 11, Kiambu 9, West Polot 7, kilifi 7, Turkana 5, Laikipia 4, Narok 4, Kajiado 4, Murang’a 3, kakamega 2, Nakuru, Kisumu, Embu, Machakos, Siaya and Kwale have recorded one case each.

In Nairobi, the 77 cases are from Langata (11), Dagoretti North (10), Westlands (8), Starehe (7) Embakasi South (5), Embakasi Cenral, Kasarani, Kibra, Makadara and Mathare (4) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi East and Roysambu (3) cases each, Embakasi North, Kamkunji and Ruaraka (2) cases each while Embakasi West recorded (10 case.

In Mombasa, the 21 cases are from Mvita (9), Nyali (5), Jomvu (3), Kisauni and Likoni (2) cases each.

In Busia, the 20 cases are from Matayos (15), and Teso North (5)
