A fight for millions of shillings meant for the sick has erupted between a health provider and the national health insurer.
At the centre of the dispute between Patanisho Maternity and Nursing Home and National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) is Sh10 million owed to the health provider and a decision by the NHIF board to cancel a lucrative four-year contract with the hospital.
Patanisho in an urgent suit, filed at the High Court to reverse the decision to terminate the contract, claimed it risked closing down for being denied a share of the millions collected monthly by the insurer.
Through lawyer Ezekiel Munyua, the hospital submitted NHIF’s board decision will not only deny them revenue, but also expose several patients to danger and possible death since they will have no alternative healthcare.
“Both inpatients and outpatients at the hospital suffer from a myriad of ailments including terminal ones and if left unattended will suffer permanent and irreversible conditions,” said Munyua.
