Belgium assistant boss Thierry Henry has held talks over taking over as Egypt boss, according to the Mirror.

The former Arsenal star is looking for his first managerial job after guiding Belgium to the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia last month.

The 40-years-old was reportedly set to become the new Aston Villa boss last week before the club’s new owners decided to keep current manager Steve Bruce for another season.

After a distraught World Cup campaign, Egypt sacked Hector Cuper and are now looking for a new manager to start a new project and Henry is said to have reached out to Egyptian FA chief Hazem Emam to talk about the vacancy.

Former Egypt goalkeeper Nader El-Sayed said that he negotiated with Henry to take over Egypt. The now player agent also said that he and Emam contacted Henry’s agent in London to negotiate a deal to make the former Barcelona star Cuper’s successor.

"We had a meeting with Thierry Henry’s agent in London, and Hazem Emam was present,’ El-Sayed told local radio station.

"Henry is waiting for the EFA's project for the team before deciding on the offer, apart from the economic aspect.

Former Mexico boss Javier Aguirre has also been linked with the vacant post.
