Coast lawyer Simbi bags 'Mulembe' title in Mombasa

Coast Lawyer Victor Simbi celebrated his weekend in style after emerging the Overall winner in the 2023 ‘Mulembe’ Golf tournament played at the Sea-Link par 71 Mombasa Golf Course on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 14, the left handed Golfer carded an excellent score of 41 stable ford points to emerge the overall winner in the daylong event organized by the ‘Mulembe’ Golfing Society.

“Iam thrilled to have this victory after a long time and this was due to my playing an easy game, excellent weather and nice partners. It has been fun and exciting throughout the day and I hope to defend the title next year,” said Simbi.

Camera shy Salim Taib playing off handicap 28 was the Men winner on 39 points while the Club Chairman Paul Munyao playing off handicap 19 managed to return 37 points to claim the runners up slot , two points ahead of third placed handicap 17 Paul Koech.

The event that was also graced by professional golfers led by Kakamega based Dismus Indiza was jointly supported by ICEA Lion Group, EABL, Tudor Health Care, Artha, and Friends of ‘Mulembe’.

South Coast Lady Golfers from Diamond Leisure Golf Resort Club swept the ladies prizes with handicap 18 Caroline Mokaya carding 35 points to claim the Lady’s title and her colleague Pauline Nduva playing off handicap 32 taking the runners up slot after returning a score of 33 points.

Handicap 10 Allan Habala also from South Coast was the overall ‘Mulembe’ winner with 33 points ,  beating handicap 15 Francis Okwara to the runners up place by a single point difference while handicap 6 Edwin Kinisu on 31 points and handicap 26 Evans Murumba with 30 points were the ‘Mulembe’ Men and runners up winners respectively.

The ‘Mulembe’ lady winner was handicap 35 Gertrude Mwendah with 31 points and handicap 35 Ruth Wanyonyi brought 21 points to claim the runners up slot.

Elijah Ibua playing off handicap 19 went home with the senior prize after carding 30 points and School boy handicap 52 Randy Cheruiyot was the best junior on 19 points.

Club Captain Chairman Paul Munyao and his Captain James Gitonga congratulated the Organizers under the Chairmanship of Eric Nyongesa and golfers for the success of the event saying it was one of the biggest golf events held at the club that will forever remain the Club records.

“We have every reason to celebrate members of the ‘Mulembe’ golfing Society for bringing the event to our club and hopefully it will be bigger next year,” said Munyao and Gitonga.

Elsewhere at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course on the same day, handicap 26 Lady golfer  Caroline Nyarandi carded 44 points to emerge the overall winner of the 16th leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour beating a field of 221 golfers.

“Today my swing was amazing and it’s time to continue sharpening my skills as I eagerly await the grand finale in Nairobi .This is the third time I have won a major event at Nyali in recent weeks and I thank God for continuing to be in good form, “said Nyarandi.

Nyarandi’s team of William Kaguta, Edwin Kiptoo and Raajkamal Dhanjal were the overall team winners with their combined score of 118 points.

Detan Ondieki, Wilson Rading, Peter Umara and Joan Kimani were the team runners up on a combined score of 112 points.

The two leading teams will now join 13 other teams that have qualified for the grand finale of the series taking place at the Karen Country Club on December 15.

Handicap 28 Mukesh Sanghavi was the overall Men winner on 42points while the Club’s former Lady Captain Annemarie De-Jong playing off handicap 31 was the lady winner with 39 points and  the Junior prize on 40 points was claimed  by handicap 17 Fidel Wasike. 

KCB’s Senior Relationship Manager Scola Onsongo playing off handicap 31 brought 46 points to claim the Staff prize while handicap 24 Ken Ouko became the runner up with 38 points and the guest winner on 42 points was handicap 16 Mike Mwimali .
