Golf: Ndegwa wins Huduma Day showpiece in Kitale

One birdie was enough to fire Harun Ndegwa to claim Huduma Day tournament at the par 73 Kitale Golf Club on Saturday.

Enjoying home advantage, handicap 17 Ndegwa fired 69 nett after an 85 gross to win the contest that was sponsored by Kenya Seed Acting Managing Director Fred Oloibe.

Ndegwa earned a bogey in hole one par 5, dropped two in the second par 5, bogey in third par 4 before recovering with par 4, 5 and 6 before he bogeyed in 7th, 8th and 9th.

In the last nine, he shot back to back pars from holes 10, 11 and 12 dropped two in 13th and 14th but was lucky as he sunk a birdie in 15th par 3 bogeys in 16th then pars in 17th and 18th. 

Nandi Bears golfer Faith Chemtai, handicap eight, returned second after firing 70 nett.

Chemtai led club mate Elly Barno to third position with 72 nett as home golfer Ali Babuh (74), club chairman Pradip Shah (74) and Eldoret green keeper Aron Kitur (74) to top six spots.

In the commercials category, Chemtai once again won the longest drive title before winning the nearest to the pin prize.

Eldoret’s Aron Kitur won the men’s title and the nearest to the pin prize at hole 5.

On 35 points, home golfer Josephine Jesang won the first nine title while Eldoret’s Amos Butit won the second nine title on 33 points.
