Gor Mahia moved top of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League after defeating Ulinzi Stars 2-0 yesterday as the race to win the 2022-2023 title took a new twist.

Defending champions Tusker, who were top heading into the weekend fixtures, dropped to second after a shocking 2-1 defeat to relegation-fighting Wazito at Muhoroni Stadium in Kisumu.

At Kasarani Stadium, Austin Odhiambo scored a brace inside the opening 10 minutes as Gor ended their three-match winless run in their 2-0 victory against the soldiers.

Gor had lost 1-0 to AFC Leopards and drawn 0-0 against Wazito and Tusker, results that derailed their title push and they needed a win to revive their push again.

The victory moved Gor two points clear at the top of the table ahead of Tusker, whose defeat in Kisumu slows down Robert Matano's title push.

Collins Neto's opener in the 15th minute gave Wazito a 1-0 halftime lead before Charles Momanyi restored parity in the 79th minute. An 86th penalty by Neto sealed an unlikely victory for Wazito who moved four points clear off Mathare United in the race to secure the 16th spot which is the promotion and relegation playoff spot.

The Slum Boys, who lost 1-0 Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium are now second last with 22 points, while Wazito have 26 points.
