Donny Van De Beek has been warned by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he must fight to earn a starting place at Manchester United.

Van De Beek, a £40million summer signing from Ajax, has yet to start a Premier League game for United this season.

The Dutch midfielder's agent claimed Van de Beek deserved to be starting for United, but Solskajer said the 23-year-old has to earn that right first.

"Donny's fit enough, but of course it's competition for places," said Solskjaer.

"It's giving him time to settle in and adjust to his new teammates, it's a new league, he's an absolutely top footballer and personality, humble and hard-working, but eager to play more.

"You'll see him throughout the season, it's gonna be a long, long season and you'll see him play more."

Solskjaer expects skipper Harry Maguire and striker Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani to be available to face Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday.

"I hope and expect all three to be available for selection," said Solskjaer.

"We've got a training session this morning but they've got a chance, all of them.

"Edinson wants to tick all the boxes that he's gone through in his programme to be ready and make an impact.

"The last preparation is today and will have a discussion but yesterday it seemed positive."

United will be looking to build on two positive results in the last few days after a 4-1 win against Newcastle last weekend was followed by a shock 2-1 victory away at PSG in the Champions League.

The games do not get any easier any time soon, though, with the game against Chelsea followed by RB Leipzig in their second Champions League match on Wednesday and then another Premier League game at Old Trafford on November 1, this time against Arsenal.
