A silver lining for betting fans

Sports betting fans have this week woken to shocking news that the government has blocked betting companies’ payment systems. The move, seen as malicious, has caught betting firms by surprise.

To the disappointment of sports betting fans who had deposited large sums of money in their accounts whereas others were waiting for results from their bets this spells disaster.

The betting firms’ applications for licenses were done and some were renewed while some are still being reviewed. Among those that were renewed was Betika who continue to do business in Kenya and beyond the borders, offering Sports Betting options such as Pre-Match betting, Live Betting and Casinos.

On Wednesday the Ministry of Interior suspended licenses of 27 betting firms from operating in Kenya saying they had not met outstanding renewal requirements and therefore their licences had not been renewed.

 

In a rejoinder, the BCLB also directed all mobile money transfer service providers to suspend the PayBill numbers and short codes allocated to the affected companies.

Betika being one of those companies that were not suspended continues to offer services to their customers during this tough period.

Fans of AFCON have breathed a sigh as relief as they can still enjoy betting through the firm anytime as the tournament progresses to the semi-finals this Sunday.
