In Spanish law, a first-time offender of a non-violent crimes can actually avoid going to prison if their sentences are two years or less unless the offender commits the same crime again during the two-year period.

The 33-year-old’s situation is similar to Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi’s two years ago when he was given a 21-month prison sentence for tax fraud.
