Bayern Munich star reveals he still texts Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

The World Cup winner made his breakthrough under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund before his big-money move to Bayern Munich in 2013

Germany international Mario Gotze has revealed that he remains in contact with his former mentor Jurgen Klopp, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The Liverpool boss handed Gotze his big break at former club Borussia Dortmund, where the midfielder grew to become one of the most promising youngsters in Europe, before joining Bayern Munich in 2013.

Since then he has scored a World Cup final winner for his country, but his club career hasn't quite lived up to expectations at the Allianz Arena.

“We are texting now and again,” Gotze told ZDF TV. “He was my coach at Borussia Dortmund, but there is nothing special.”

Asked whether they had discussed a potential transfer to Anfield, Gotze replied: “No.”

Gotze featured for 54 minutes on Saturday after returning from a five-month injury lay-off and said: “It was nice to return. I am just pleased that I was able to play again.”

However, he refused to be drawn on his future.

He said: “It hinges on many factors. Everything else will show in the future.”

Carlo Ancelotti is set to take over from Manchester City bound Pep Guardiola this summer and Gotze added: “We are still in the current season but, sure, it’ll be important what the new coach thinks.”

Bayern sporting executive Matthias Sammer said the club will “analyse the situation in the summer” and added: “We also have to see what the player wants.”
