Barcelona player rejects Manchester United deal

Dani Alves has turned down a move to Manchester United and signed a new deal to stay at Barcelona until 2017.

The Brazilian international’s future had been the source of much speculation recently, with his contract having been set to expire at the end of the month and negotiations between he and the European champions having reached stalemate.

But just three days after winning his third Champions League trophy with the Blaugrana, the 32-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a new contract.

"FC Barcelona has announced that Dani Alves has accepted its proposal for the renewal of his contract, which expires on June 30 of this year," read a statement on the club's official website.

"The new agreement binding both parties will be for a further two seasons, through to 30 June 2017, with the option of a third additional season.

Alves had been linked with a free transfer to both United and Paris Saint-Germain, having spoken last month of his feelings of under-appreciation by the Camp Nou hierarchy.

The full-back, who has made 343 appearances for the five-time European champions had declared himself “200 per cent committed to the team, but to the club not even 10 per cent”, as well as stating his belief that “the club doesn’t value me the way I feel I deserve”.

However, he opened the door on the possibility of staying in Catalunya on Sunday evening, during emotional scenes at the club’s end-of-season parade.
