Platinum aims for away goal against Sofapaka

Away goal will be the order of the day for FC Platinum as the Zimbabwean side lock horns with Gotv Shield Champions Sofapaka in next Sunday’s CAF Confederations Cup first leg tie, at the Nyayo National Stadium.

As part of their preparations for the upcoming continental assignment, the Chibuku Super Cup winners drew 1-1 with Chapungu, beat Bantu Rovers 2-0 before being held to a 1-1 draw by Highlanders in their final build-up match last Saturday.

Motivated by their impressive preseason preparations, Platinum’s assistant coach Patrick Mandizha believes they must score must score for them to be comfortable about progressing.

“So far the guys have been responding positively to training. The thing about international matches is that we have to make sure that we do not concede a goal, but score an away goal to put us in a comfortable position and increase our chances of progressing, Mandizha was quoted by the Southern Eye newspaper.

“We are taking this game (Sofapaka) cautiously so that we don’t concede a goal but at the same time we will be looking for a positive result so that when we come back home, it will work to our advantage. We just want our fans to keep on supporting us. They should not put us under pressure.”

Platinum are expected to arrive in the country on Friday evening.
