Kisumu Queens signal intent in Copa Cola national finals at World Hope Centreon.

Kisumu Queens from Nyanza whitewashed Maragua Queens from Central 9-0 at the start of the Copa Coca Cola national finals at World Hope Centre on Monday.

Impressive Akinyi (left), Veronica Aketch and Melvin Awuor scored a brace in a one -sided girls pool B match played on soggy grounds.

After several attempts on the goal mouth Aketch managed to open the score sheet in the tenth minute of play with a cunning weak shot from the right flank. The diminutive striker added a second goal in the 13th minute following a melee in the opponent’s goalmouth.

Akinyi scored her first goal in the 17th minute which was followed by Pauline Atieno’s stunner in the 21st minute. Beverly Achieng made it 5-0 in the 29th minute before the breather.

On resumption, Awuor scored her brace in the 49th and 51st minutes before Akinyi added her second goal in the 62nd minute. Crowning the victory was Beryl Audia who converted a left cross in the 65th minute.

“We were not expecting this kind of victory but we are happy we won with such a margin. We are looking forward to win our matches against Kapsowar Girls and Murhanda today,” Kisumu Queens coach Eunice Dola told FeverPitch.

Same scenario

It was also the same scenario in girls pool A where Sheryl Angachi led Otto Benecker from Mathare slums to defeat their Nairobi counterparts Beijing Girls 4-2.

Angachi netted a hat-trick in the 10th, 36th and 72nd minutes   with Lydia Awuor’s 22nd minute volley sealing the victory for Otto.

Murhanda Boys from Western  were defeated 4-2 by Gunners FC from Rift Valley in a boys pool A encounter.

Joseph Lucheya put the Gunners ahead in the sixth minute with a hard shot from the left flank before making it a brace in the 58th minute.

Ombewa Zadock scored the third goal for the winners  and Wesley Omayo sealed the deal in the 43rd minute after a clean pass from Ombewa.

Murhanda scored the two goals from Ignatius Likano in the 35th minute and Brian Alumasa in the 46th.Two teams from each pool will sail to semis. Finals will be on Saturday at City Stadium.
