Hussein Terry ban will benefit Salim Sumra and Twaha Mbarak at Football Kenya Federation Coast Region National Executive Council

By ROBIN TOSKIN

The indefinite suspension of Football Kenya Federation Coast Region National Executive Council (NEC) member Hussein Terry could pave the way for the return of renowned administrators Salim Sumra and Twaha Mbarak.

Speaking a day after Terry was ejected from the FKF Executive Committee, Coast region officials said they would “welcome anyone who would add value to the region”.

FKF South Coast Chairman Hamisi Mwayoyo said Terry’s suspension is a relief to the region as he was a stumbling block to efforts being made to develop football.

“He was divisive. Despite being a national leader, he rode roughshod over elected branch leaders instead of working towards getting more teams into the premier league,” Mwayoyo said.

“He raised issues against the national office without following protocol, whether his claims were genuine or not, and passed up the chance to present evidence to the NEC even after a written committment.

Work together

“As Coast region, we need to unite for the good of our sport so as to benefit the youth instead of antagonising everyone,” said Mwayoyo.

North Coast Branch Chairman John Ngowa said it was a pity Terry ran into trouble with the national office.

“His departure will open doors for administrators like Salim Sumra, Twaha Mbarak, Mohamed Omar and many others who shied away because of antagonism.” said Ngowa. “They have no corruption stains on them.”

When contacted Terry said: “I have been judged and hanged by a Kangaroo court. They did not follow the constitution. It is unfair to Kenyans because we were elected directly just as Nyamweya. Whatever Mwayoyo and Mwachie (Evans) is up to them. The good thing is that clubs are with me. Whatever is happening at the Coast is instigated by Nyamweya. I urge the clubs to defend their right.”

Twaha is a former FKF Senior Vice-chairman and long-time family friend of FKF President Nyamweya.
