Bungoma’s Mulembe run riot against Celtic

Bungoma,Kenya:Bungoma-based Mulembe FC whipped Celtic FC 15-0 in a Football Kenya Federation Western Kenya Provincial League match at the weekend.

The result lays ground for the upcoming side that is already sending shock waves to opponents in the upcoming Gotv Shield Cup.

Former Kenyan Premier League (KPL) players Gideon Asudzi (AFC Leopards), Griffins Amatala (Kakamega Homeboyz) and former West Kenya player Gibson Kisienya shone during the match, netting five goals each.

The Western side will play   Division One side Nakumatt FC in the GOtv tourney.

Mulembe are currently perched at the apex of the league having so far won all their matches in the league this season.

The club recruited heavily during the transfer period last month, netting players from KPL sides AFC Leopards, Bandari and Kakamega Homeboyz.

“The club is getting better by the day, we are happy with our new signings and I must give credit to our scouting department which worked tirelessly to come up with a program that has seen the club realize the best talent from Western Province” said the club CEO Henry Wasilwa.

“Our focus is now on the league title but most importantly the continental glory that comes with winning the GOtv Shield,” he added.

Wasilwa reiterated that the club was taking the GOtv shield tourney seriously adding that kitting company Adidas were ready to come in for the cup while Nike, another company, would maintain stay on the league.

“We wish to thank the sponsors of the cup, GOtv and also the organisers led by the president of Football Kenya Federation Sam Nyamweya for taking the FKF cup to a totally new level.”

Wasilwa appealed to fans to come out in large numbers and support the team when they shall stage their first match in the Gotv Shield, formerly known as FKF President Cup.

“Beating Nakumatt FC would mean a lot to us, it will be more than just an advancing ticket. It will mean the revival of the community clubs and we urge corporate companies to consider sponsoring community clubs as opposed to running their own football clubs,” said Ssemi Aina, Mulembe president.
