Served as a magistrate between 1982 and 1997 before retiring from judicial service

First elected to Parliament in 1999 as MP for Siakago

Re-elected as MP in 2002

Served as opposition chief whip and chair of the Public Investment Committee in the 10th Parliament.

Lost his MP seat in 2007 general elections

Elected Speaker of National Assembly in 2013 after failed attempt to recapture MP seat

Was a member of Parliamentary Select Committee on constitutional review from 1999 to 2004

Appointed the chairman of the Centre for Multiparty Democracy civil society in April 2011
