Out of this world wedding entertainment

By ESTHER MUCHENE

Even with my eyes closed I can guarantee you that probably most, if not all weddings, will have Kayamba... Yawn. Not that I’m not a fan, well maybe I’m not, but due to the fact that they are overdone. It’s understandable that you want something authentic and of your heritage, but is this the only way to go about it? From observation, many young guests who consider themselves classy are often left out. Those willing to entertain their guests seriously, no pun intended, this is for you.

•             If you’re the kind of couple that loves collectibles and art why not hire an artist for your reception to do some of your guests portraits? This will not only impress your guests, but will make them feel special. Have the portraits handed out to some of your guests as favours at the end of the reception.

•             If you rub shoulders with the ‘big’ names why not invite some of them? Have your guests mingle and dine with celebrities at the reception then have photos of them taken. This may cost you, but may be worth it. Have them throw in a live performance if possible.

•             Does your adorable husband love video games? If so, have a gaming area set a few metres away from the reception area for the male guests to knock themselves out. Throw in some steering wheels and gun consoles for the whole kick. If the budget allows, why not hire some Go Karts? Your male guests and younger guests will love you for it.

•             Have a live radio show streaming. Show the whole world how much you’re in love by having your wedding aired live. Have the DJ play live music from the reception with live guest interviews as shout outs and advice to the newly wed. Sound impossible? All you have to do is have Jack Omamo, a radio presenter, do ‘my block’ segment at your wedding.

•             Are you having an out of town or destination wedding? If so, have your guests taken for an impromptu mini tour after the ceremony while you have your photo session.

•             If you love comedy nights, then invite  or one of the local comedians to entertain your guests or to be the emcee.

•             Lastly, hire a live band with a back up acoustic poetry artist. This will give your guests variety of entertainment matching their mood.
