Seven Kenyan celebrities with over 1 million followers on Instagram

Popular comedian and actor Steven Oduor Dede better known as DJ Shiti recently clocked the coveted 1 million mark on Instagram.

Taking to his account in glee, the Real Househelps of Kawangware star could not hide his excitement as he thanked his fans for enabling him to hit the milestone.

“Wooooow. What a wonderful day in my career. A million followers feels great already. Thank you for holding me up. I can't type too much cause am shaking! God bless you. Haaa shakaaa. I can't believe it you garra kill me or what? Couldn't gerrit,” wrote the funny man.

DJ Shiti is the latest personality to join a growing list of Kenyan celebrities who command a huge following on the networking service. 

Gospel songbird Kambua was not too long ago also in DJ Shiti’s shoes; celebrating her followers for their continued support. To mark the occasion, Kambua opened up and treated them to 10 facts about herself.

“Cheers to 1M of you for showing this 5'2" Kamba girl so much love!” wrote Kambua.

Janet Mbugua

Another celebrity grateful for her huge online following is media personality Janet Mbugua whose number stands at 1.1million with a large percentage being women.

The mother of two uses her platform mainly to discuss matters pertaining to women empowerment.

Mbugua’s enthusiasm for women rights led her to launch an initiative that focuses on curbing period stigma in society dubbed ‘Period Parties’ that not too long ago got recognition from BBC News Africa.

According to the Inua Dada Foundation founder, “Period parties are important because they make it easy and even fun to talk about menstruation.”

Otile Brown

Otile Brown’s year couldn’t get any better! The famous RnB singer boasts a staggering 1.3million followers in his Instagram account with the numbers going up every single day.

On his account, the Just In Love CEO treats his fans to his latest jams coupled with a number of well-edited pictures of himself showcasing his undeniable fashion sense.

Other than his huge following on Instagram the Baby Love crooner was recently listed as one of the most viewed musicians on YouTube in Kenya.

Jalang'o

Popular comedian cum radio presenter Felix Odiwuor aka Jalang’o has a whopping 1.7 million followers on Instagram.

The Milele FM presenter uses his platform to update his followers on his day to day activities not forgetting to spice things up with memes here and there.

Less than a month ago, Jalang’o started his own YouTube channel where he hosts local celebrities to discuss their careers and personal lives.

The channel, Jalang’o Mwenyewe, has impressively garnered over 95.3 subscribers and could soon be celebrating his 100k silver button milestone. 

Sauti Sol

Kenyan Boy Band group Sauti Sol’s Instagram page sits on 1.8 million followers.

The four-man group has managed to keep their fans glued on their page with snippets of their lives and insights into their breathtaking jams.

During the launch of their latest album, The Midnight Train, they even went as far as holding a virtual concert for their fans at home!

Sauti Sol is listed among the most prosperous music groups in Kenya that have enriched the country’s heritage to the rest of Africa and beyond.  For this reason, it is safe to say their following is diversified.

Akothee

The self-styled Boss Lady has 2 million followers on the social media app. The outspoken mother of five has managed to create a rapport with her followers with her consistent uploads on social media.

From having charity drives and helping the needy to leisure by the pool to bonding with her kids, Akothee keeps her timeline very real.

Betty Kyallo

The former K24 presenter’s online presence keeps growing day by day with her current social media following standing at 2.1 million followers.

The comedian cum emcee's Instagram page sits at 2.7 million followers. If there’s something we can all agree, it’s the fact that Eric Omondi puts a lot of effort when it comes to his social media content.

The comedian continually posts short relatable and hilarious skits on his Instagram that netizens cannot resist which has boosted his following.

He too has a YouTube channel with 392k subscribers.
