When Pablo Gonzalez told his family and friends in Spain that he intended to walk from the Cape to Cairo, nobody believed him. That was in 2021, and with the Covid-19 pandemic wreaking havoc across the world, that seemed an impossible feat.
"My family would go silent when I told them that I wanted to walk the whole length of Africa," he says. "I was to start at Cape Town and South Africa had the deadly Omicron variant of the coronavirus. No one believed me."
