Meghan Markle has denied reports she asked for her real name to be taken off Archie's birth certificate. It emerged yesterday that 'Rachel Meghan', her first and middle names, were removed from her son's certificate a month after giving birth.

In its place, it listed Archie's mum as the more formal 'Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex', However, a spokesperson for the Sussexes has since denied Meghan was behind the change.

In a statement to the Independent, the spokesperson said: "The change of name on public documents in 2019 was dictated by The Palace, as confirmed by documents from senior Palace officials. This was not requested by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex nor by The Duke of Sussex."

The Sun had claimed the move could have been a 'snub' to Prince William and Kate Middleton, who included Kate's names on their children's certificates. But the spokesperson added that the claim of a potential “snub” would be “laughable were it not offensive”.

Little Archie was born on May 6, 2019, and his birth was registered 11 days later before an amendment was made on June 5. The tot's birth papers no longer shows 'Rachel Meghan' as his mum instead it reads 'Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex'.
