Weeks after singer Idrisa Musuza popularly known as Eddy Kenzo was named Uganda's Tourism Ambassador, the Sitya Loss hitmaker has added a feather to his cap. This is after he took to his Instagram account to proclaim that he is the first Ugandan to feature on New York’s iconic and well-known outdoor advertising space, Times Square.

Revelling at the 'landmark feature', Kenzo explained that the unassuming nod in Midtown Manhattan was courtesy of his work with Ivorian Afro-zouk singer Mama Monique Seka.

“Pass by the New York Times Square in the US, you will see your boy Eddy Kenzo in partnership with @primemusicpartner getting ready to release an African classic we all grew up enjoying titled Missounwa redone with Mama Monique Seka. The first Ugandan musician to appear on the New York Time Square billboard,” stated Kenzo.

“Told them they never listened blessed and best in the game,” responded one of his followers while congratulating the singer for the milestone. “Levels. Munamasaka on time square!!” added another. While a third posted, “For the people who don’t support Kenzo and voted for Diamond Platnumz... I hope you know good things happen to good people. Congratulations. May you receive the support you deserve.”

The move is a win for the country having unveiled the singer in early September to market, through music, his country’s tourist attractions on the international scene. According to Uganda’s State Minister for Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi, Kenzo is a reassurance and a voice of hope.

“In such a dull period of the pandemic, A voice of hope and reassurance is what we need to soldier on, and Eddy Kenzo’s music has been that instrumental voice that’s restored hope, built confidence and showcased our strength to move forth,” said Kiwanda.

A position graciously affirmed by Kenzo who in his address pledged to employ his star power to unlock the pearl’s tourism potential. “I will use my brand to promote Uganda with all my love and devotion. I would like to thank the Ministry of Tourism most notably Hon minister Kiwanda, the tourism partners like Uganda Tourism Board, Uganda Wildlife Authority among others for entrusting me with this role,” said Kenzo.

He went on: “While I will be required to also showcase our beauty to the outside world, I strongly believe it all begins with us. I, therefore, appeal to you all my friends, fans and all Ugandans to be a part of the #TulambuleMyUganda campaign to see what beauty we behold as a nation.”
