The Queen has wished Meghan Markle a "very happy birthday" on Instagram as the Duchess turns 39 today. A post on The Royal Family account says: "Wishing The Duchess of Sussex a very happy birthday!"

The post includes a lovely photograph of the Queen and Meghan smiling together from a past royal outing. "The Queen and The Duchess are pictured during a joint visit to Chester in 2018," the caption says.

In the photo, the Queen, dressed in green, is waving to crowds during their royal engagement. Meghan is standing to her left, dressed in cream, and smiling. Kate and William and Charles and Camilla have also sent their special birthday wishes to Meghan this morning.

The Duchess' birthday comes just a week before the tell-all, bombshell book Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, is set to be released. An Instagram post from William and Kate's Kensington Royal account says: "Wishing a very happy birthday to The Duchess of Sussex today!"

They also included a lovely, smiling picture of Meghan talking to a little girl. Adding to the well wishes today were Prince Charles and Camilla. They posted a photo of Meghan on Twitter with the comment "Happy Birthday to The Duchess of Sussex!" Meghan will be spending her special day in her temporary LA home, a £15million mansion on the Beverly Ridge Estate formerly owned by actor and producer Tyler Perry, it is understood.

Every year, Meghan uses her new milestone to reflect on her life and make a few wishes about her future, inspired by her mum Doria Ragland. "My mom has always said that birthdays are your own personal New Year," Meghan wrote in 2016 on her now-deleted The Tig lifestyle website. "Your own chance to make resolutions just for yourself and what you prognosticate for your year ahead."

Omid Scobie has joined fellow journalist Carolyn Durand to pen Finding Freedom, which tells the story of the couple's decision to quit the royal family. But Prince Harry and Meghan, currently living in the US, say they were not interviewed for the book and did not make any contributions to it. "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to 'Finding Freedom'," a spokesperson for the couple said in a statement.

"This book is based on the authors' own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting", the statement added.
