Cate Kirui (not her real name) is a troubled woman. She is married to an overly protective man. “My hubby is strange. He is basically what you would call a nag. I have persevered for long but I just don’t know what to do. I can’t take it any more,” Cate opens up to this writer. “He wants to accompany me virtually everywhere I go. I never enjoy weekends. I always feel like I have a leash on my neck for he wants to be everywhere I am; be it at the salon, chama meeting or fellowship,” she laments.

She says her social life is closely monitored. She narrates how she, at times, spends hours in the salon but her husband never leaves; he is always hovering around. He is either in side the salon reading a magazine or newspaper or just within the vicinity of the salon.
