Jubilee Party candidate for Bogichora ward seat John Okebiro is dead.

Okebiro died on Friday at a Kisii hospital where he was admitted suffering exhaustion. His sister Rose Nyanduko said the exhaustion resulted from depleted levels of blood sugar.

She said Okebiro had also been battling diabetes for a long time. Nyanduko said Okebiro fell ill on Thursday after attending a series of rallies in the constituency and was admitted to Ram Hospital.

The MCA aspirant, who was in his early 70s, was among the front runners for the seat, which attracted 19 contestants.

He is the second Jubilee candidate from Gusii region to die in a span of three weeks. Kitutu Chache parliamentary candidate Leonard Mwamba died in a road crash in mid July, prompting the electoral commission to postpone the constituency election.

Sitting MCA Beautah Omanga, who is defending the seat as an independent, condoled with Okebiro’s family.
