The Education ministry has spent Sh161.5 million on the construction of Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms in Migori County.

County Director of Education Jacob Onyiego said the amount has been spent on 205 classrooms ahead of the rollout of CBC in junior secondary schools in January 2023.

“We have started launching completed classrooms across the county,” Onyiego said.

All the CBC classrooms under construction will be handed over to respective schools for use by the end of this month.

Onyiego spoke at Masara Secondary School during the launch of the CBC classroom.

He praised school heads and contractors who ensured the construction process was a success. Masara Principal Daniel Aloka thanked the ministry for identifying the school and making it part of the CBC classrooms programme.

Elsewhere, Nyanza Education Director Willie Machocho commended contractors for work well done. He commissioned classrooms in Kuria Kuria West and Kuria East sub-counties.

“We will not allow anybody to delay the contractors' payments. They have worked so hard using every penny they had and it is necessary that their payment is processed on time,” Machocho said.

He said Education CS George Magoha was clear about the urgency of paying contractors on time once their work is completed.
