Uhuru to lead Cabinet in KCSE administration

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to lead his Cabinet in overseeing the administration of this year’s KCSE national examinations that start today.

According to State officials who were interviewed, the involvement of the President and his Cabinet is part of an elaborate plan to lock out cartels who enable schools to cheat.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) has stationed one exam monitor in each of the 125 secondary schools flagged as hot spots for exam cheating. It also emerged that the number of examination monitors who will be mounting impromptu visits to schools has been doubled. Sources at Knec told The Standard the monitors have been cautioned they will take personal responsibility if examination irregularities are registered in areas they are overseeing. Some 699,745 candidates will sit KCSE examinations.

Details from Knec reveal that 31 counties are under close scrutiny. They are Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Machakos, Meru, Marsabit, Isiolo, Makueni, Nairobi, Turkana, West Pokot and Trans Nzoia, Bomet, Uasin Gishu, Kericho, Nandi, Kajiado, Nakuru, Baringo, Busia, Bungoma and Kakamega.

Others are Vihiga, Kisumu, Kisii, Homa Bay, Migori, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Nyeri, Muranga, Kitui, Embu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Siaya and Nyamira counties.
