‘My sleeplessnights were not in vain’

There was joy and celebration at Railways estate immediately Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed announced this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.

Humphrey Rasugu, who was ranked fifth countrywide, was embraced by members of his family, friends and relatives for his exemplary peformance.

The 17-year-old and a former Maseno School student scored an A (plain) of 84 points. He attributed his performance to hard work, discipline and regular revision.

“I am happy that my sleepiness nights have not been in vain,” said Rasugu full of joy.

The first born in a family of three, said he used to wake up as early as 4.30am to revise.

He added that teachers at the school also completed the academic syllabus on time, an initiative that provided him with adequate revision time that enabled him improve his weaker subjects.

“Teachers at Maseno were so determined in seeing me perform well in the national examination. They used to walk with me in all revision process, here I am, now celebrating,” he said.

He added that his parents have been encouraging him to perform well and would struggle to pay school fees on time.

Rasugu’s mother is a primary school teacher and his father works with Kenya Railways.

“My parents have been encouraging me all the time and would more often visit the school and talk to teachers about my performance,” he said.

Rasugu was a former pupil at Crater Academy in Nakuru and scored 418 in his KCPE. 

The top performer, who aspires to be a neurosurgeon, said he is looking forward to joining the University of Nairobi.
