The government is preparing to roll out the second phase of the school laptops programme.

Yesterday, ICT PS Jerome Ochieng led a high level government delegation that included members of the Parliamentary Committee on ICT on a tour of the laptops assembly plant at Moi University’s Rivatex plant.

Mr Ochieng (right) said the government has installed devices in more than 19,000 schools across the country and more than one million devices distributed.

The local assembly lines in both Moi University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and technology (JKUAT) are one of the best in Africa. Each assemble more than 1,000 devices per day.

Moi University Vice Chancellor Isaac Kosgey said the Rivatex assembly plant will roll out devices for other uses other than the digital learning programme.
