High school principal stoned by his own students

A high school principal is fighting for his life at Longisa Sub-County Hospital in Bomet County after students stoned him.

David Chelule of Olomirani Boys High School in Narok South is said to have been on patrol at dawn after word went round that students intended to stage protests.

Area OCPD Philip Kirui said the students reportedly lamented over suspension of drunken colleagues and transfer of the deputy principal. “Mr Chelule was doing early morning rounds when the students stoned him, leaving him unconscious and badly injured,” said Kirui.

The police moved swiftly and rushed him to Longisa Sub-County Hospital, where he was operated on and is now stable.

Kirui has blamed parents for giving their children excess pocket money, which lures them into alcoholism and drug abuse.

Area Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers Executive Charles Ng’eno has condemned the incident and called for legal action against the rogue students. “It is unfortunate that a school head, going about his daily duties was attacked by his students and left in critical condition. Such students are criminals and should be treated as such, and should be prosecuted,” said Mr Ng’eno.

The school has been closed indefinitely.
