Make pre-school attractive to learners, Kagwe says

Nyeri, Kenya: Efforts should be made to ensure nursery school education is attractive to young learners, Nyeri Senator Mutahi Kagwe has said.

Kagwe, who is the Senate Committee on Education Chairman, said his committee was rooting for television sets in all Early Childhood Education Development (ECD) classrooms to make education enjoyable to young children.

Speaking in Murang’a when he paid local Governor Mr Mwangi wa Iria a courtesy call as he visited nursery schools and polytechnics, Kagwe said there was need to introduce television sets for children in the next five years.

“There is need to let children watch cartoons while they are in school as many of their parents cannot afford them at home. They should be made comfortable in schools as they can watch cartoons among other programmes fitting their age,” said the Nyeri County Senator.

Wa Iria said television sets could be installed in all ECD centres as a strategy to make attract children to schools than being at home.

“We must nurture young children by making education enjoyable,” said Murang’a Governor who was accompanied by Education Executive David Waweru.
