Big test for State laboratory

NAIROBI: There seems to be a major problem at the Government Chemist, which calls for urgent attention. Several people who have gone for paternity tests there claim they were given inaccurate results.

Some have confirmed this by going for the same test in other laboratories. After tests at the Government Chemist showed that the man she suspected was not the father of her child, one woman went to two other laboratories and both implicated the suspected man.

This can only mean one thing; that something is terribly amiss at the Government Chemist. Either this body, which is publicly funded, does not have the right tools to do the tests or it has been afflicted by the same deadly disease that has weakened the public institutions — corruption.

Whatever the cause of these suspect results, meddling with the laboratory tests subjects innocent children to needless suffering.

The Government should quickly find out who between humans and machines are helping the fathers’ of ‘love children’ run away from responsibility.

The problem must be addressed urgently to ensure irresponsible men play their role in the upbringing of their children.
