Kitui county govt suspends staff employment to repair roads

The Kitui County Government has suspended employment of staff and announced the money for that purpose will be diverted to repair roads damaged by the el nino rains in the county.

County Governor Julius Malombe said in Mombasa the Kitui county has bought four graders to improve the road infrastructure affected by the recent rains.

"We agreed to put on hold further employment of new staff for the next four months to repair and maintain the damaged roads in our county," said the governor.

Malombe spoke at Cool Breeze Hotel in Mombasa on Wednesday evening when he met Kitui residents residing in Coast region for a consultative meeting on the overview of the county government's vision and achievements since the devolution of services three years ago.

The governor was flanked by the county executive committee members.He said the county absorbed over 3,000 workers from the previous council and employed close to 400 more in the past two years.

He said the county has partnered with Kenya Wildlife Services and signed a memorandum of understanding with South Eastern Kenya University for a feasibility study to attract more investors.

He said the university will use Kitui County Referral Hospital for practicals and internship training for medical and health sciences trainees admitted in the health sciences and medical school the university is set to establish.

"My government has developed an economic blue print dubbed 'Vision for Economic and Social Transformation 2015-2025, which has profiled the county and divided it into six economic and investment zones based on their resource endowments and competitive advantage," said the governor.

He said the county has invested sh 56 million for a construction of a data center to enhance data and system security. He added that the county is heavily investing in water and food security to ensure the residents accessed safe and clean water as well access adequate, balanced and nutritious food from a diverse range of resources by 2017 and 2020 respectively.

On the recent Investment conference, Malombe said over 10 internationally recognised companies have shown interest to invest at the county.
