Man who defiled three nursery school girls jailed for 50 years

Senior Resident Magistrate Vincent Nyakundi has sentenced Josphat Namu to 50 years in jail for defiling three nursery school girls.

Namu was convicted after he was found guilty of defiling, sexually assaulting and indecently touching the minors' private parts on May 21, 2014, at Kithimu location, Embu West sub-county.

Another man, Francis Nthiga, had in April this year been sentenced to 25 years in jail by the same court.

Namu and Nthiga allegedly stopped the girls, who were on their way home from school at around 3pm, and took them to a nearby maize farm where they defiled them.

The girls reported the incident to their parents after one of them complained of pain in her genitals and with help from neighbours, the two men were cornered and beaten almost to death before being rescued by police.

The three girls were taken to Embu Level 5 Hospital for a check-up and the hospital report indicated that they were defiled.

Namu and Nthiga were booked at Itabua Police Station.

In his defence, Namu pleaded not guilty saying a land dispute between him and one of the girls' family was behind his tribulations and that he has also had disagreements with families of two of the girls who live near his home.

He pleaded for leniency, saying he was the sole bread winner of his family - wife and two children - who have stopped going to school since he was arrested.

Nyakundi however dismissed Namu's defence, saying he had failed to defend himself when he was given the chance.

The judge gave him 14 days to appeal the judgement.
