Makueni Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana signs Sh300m deal to fight HIV

Makueni, Kenya: Makueni Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana has signed a deal worth Sh300 million with the International Center for aids Care and treatment Program to fund campaigns against HIV and TB treatment.

The deal was signed by the governor, ICAP country director Mark Hawken and the County executive for health Dr.Mulwa Mutava at the governor’s office in Wote town.

The funds will finance procurement of HIV testing, laboratory equipment as well as employment of HIV care staff in 144 medical centers within the county.

Dr. Mutava said the deal will see employment of 43 HIV health care workers, purchase of CD4 count testing machines and renovation of 144 health centers.

He said the kitty will also fund transportation of specimens from various hospitals to the Kenya Medical Research Institute for improved medical research.

The deal will be implemented in phases, for five years, with 63 million released every year.
