Man arrested after raping woman in front of her baby

A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with two incidents that happened in the early hours in Greater Manchester this morning      

Police investigating a rape and attempted rape in the early hours of this morning have made an arrest.

Shortly after 4.40am today, police received a report of the attempted rape of a 24-year-old woman, whilst she was asleep in bed with her young son, at her home in Newton Heath.

The victim’s boyfriend disturbed the man and he fled the house.

At about 7am this morning police received a report that a 33-year-old woman had been raped and assaulted at her home in Failsworth.

The woman was with her baby at the time. She is currently in hospital being treated for serious injuries. The baby suffered no injuries.

Police have now arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the offences.

Detective Inspector Chris Flint of North Manchester division said: “I would like to thank the local community for the support they have provided during this investigation.”

"Officers made an arrest this afternoon in Manchester city centre and he remains in police custody for questioning.”
