Elderly widow deserts her home for love

Irungu Village in Vihiga County is still reeling in shock after an elderly widow deserted her late husband’s home to marry a younger chap in the neighbouring village of Gambogi.

The 74-year-old woman was widowed a few years ago and has since been living alone till recently when she joined a certain spiritual church, where residents say her heart was rekindled.

warmth

Sources close to her revealed to Crazy Monday that she had decided to find warmth elsewhere because she could no longer continue sleeping at her cold home, which her children and grandchildren had deserted.

“She has been contemplating remarrying since her husband died, and when she found an opportunity she couldn’t let go,” said the source.

Other elderly women from the other church, where she was initially a member, tried to talk to her and ‘put sense into her head’ in vain.

“I’m worried that the current generation of youth is determined to mess up with senior citizens and turn life upside down. Why would a young fellow marry a woman old enough to be his mother?” posed a 80-year-old woman who has been  the widow’s long time friend.

Her children, who are all aged and work in various parts of the country, with some married in neighbouring villages, have tried all means to bring their mother back home without success.

leaking

“We don’t know what has gone into our mother’s head. She has decided to desert her home, yet we take good care of her,” one of her sons mourned.

But the old lady says since they have left her alone in the compound and her roof was leaking, getting a man to take care of her was the only option or she would lose her life.

“I couldn’t continue staying in the compound alone. I decided to go my way and find someone to stay with. It is healthy for me,” the woman is said to have affirmed to her friends.

The two lovebirds met during one of the joint services in their church and hit if off. He proposed, and considering her state of loneliness, it was difficult for her to say ‘no’ to this prince in shining armour.

She packed some of her clothes, much to the disgust of many people in the village, and left saying she had found a new home, where she hopes to spend the rest of her life.

Godspeed, granny.
