Angry mob disciplines goat ‘lover’

By Edwin Cheserek

A 24-year-old man is admitted in hospital after an angry mob beat him for allegedly having sex with a goat at Kabetwa trading centre in Marakwet East District. The goat later died.

The victim had to be rescued from angry residents wielding crude weapons who wanted to lynch him for ‘bringing a bad omen to the community’.

The villagers arrested the suspect after hearing the goat repeatedly bleating in a strange manner from where it had been tethered to graze.

It is said that residents went to find out what was amiss and found the man making out with the goat, which had been tied to a tree.

Senseless

They raised an alarm and the suspect attempted to run away but was cornered and beaten senseless. Police who were informed of the incident arrived at the scene and whisked the profusely bleeding man to safety.

At one point, police were forced to shoot in the air to disperse the charged crowd who bayed for his blood.

The goat belonged to a neighbour who had tethered it to a tree in the field and gone for lunch at a nearby trading centre.

What incensed residents to gang up and attempt to lynch the suspect was because there had previously been several mysterious goat deaths in the neighbourhood.

Residents opined to Crazy Monday that that the goats could have been dying in an unexplained manner because of such beastly acts.

Exhibit

It is alleged that the suspect could have been performing bestiality on animals for a long time and that on this occasion; the proverbial 40 days were over. The man was taken to Tot Police station with the goat to be used as exhibit in the case against him.

Police interrogated him over the matter but he pleaded to be forgiven, saying he committed the offence because he had no partner.

A veterinary doctor who carried out a postmortem on the animal disclosed that the injuries inflicted on the goat were consistent with bestial acts as human semen was in its vagina.

Police said the suspect would be charged and if found guilty wiould be imprisoned as outlined by the law.

Marakwet elders disclosed that the man would be subjected to cultural oaths and cursed in order to cleanse the community from bad omen.
