Priest says urine can cure 170 ailments

By Titus Murithi

Sick people can go to any length and height for them to get healed.

Currently, majority of Kenyans seek modern medical attention. Those not getting healed after repeated visits to hospitals might contemplate trying other alternative treatment forms like herbal medicine or even prayers.

Such is the case of Elizabeth Karimi, 29, from Kieru in Tigania West district in Meru County. She claims to have been troubled by a kidney ailment for a long time till she heard about “urine therapy”.

She claims to have been cured after taking her own urine. The practice of drinking one’s own urine is known as urophagia.

And she is not alone. Purity Nkirote, 40, from Kitheo in the same district also claims to have healed after taking her own urine for only seven days.

Ms Nkirote says she had been suffering for a long time from coughing, congested chest and had difficulties in breathing. She claims to have sought medical attention for a long time to no avail.

Gone bananas

Scores of other people, particularly those who belong to Kieru Catholic church prayer house in Tigania West district have also testified that they got cured after taking their own urine.

John Kilema, 47, a Methodist preacher and now a “urine therapy teacher” from Miathene in the same area, claims that after drinking his urine, he got cured from back ache and his feet stopped smelling. He says his wife who had been suffering from arthritis, amoebiasis and malaria also got healed after taking her urine.

Mr Kilema says he first heard about urine therapy over a local FM radio station called Mugambo which was being presented by a Catholic priest, Fr Francis Limo Liwa of St Francis children’s home in Nchiru, Tigania west district.

“Even though local people ignored it, I tried it and got cured. At first it was not all that easy as my wife thought I had gone mad and threatened to tell other family members. That didn’t deter me. I got cured within 7 days. I still take it as maintenance dose and don’t see myself stopping any time soon,” says Mr Kilema.

Fr Liwa who is Mr Kilema’s tutor and the initiator of urophagia asserts that one’s own urine can cure many ailments.

“Urine therapy can cure 170 known ailments and an unknown childhood illnesses. The Chinese have been using it for a very long time. It need to be used immediately after urination” says the bearded Catholic priest.

He goes further to say that HIV-positive individuals need to take two to four litres per day, eat fruits and vegetables, take sorghum flour porridge mixed with greens called ‘terere’ and then take 2 glasses of hot water before going to sleep.

“Urine is anti-viral and it cleans the body. It is now six months since I started taking a glass every morning. My mother back in Tanzania had been ailing for a long time even after repeated treatment at the hospital but now she is healing after I told her about urine therapy” Fr Liwa says.

Mr Kilema said for him to be well versed, informed and qualified to teach people about urine therapy, he approached Fr Liwa for advice. He was then given several books about urophagia and urine therapy.

“Fr Liwa taught me using books from the United States and Germany which had well researched facts about urine therapy. He gave me the books for further reading. We verified some of the facts from the internet,” says Mr Kilema.

He challenges those doubting the therapy to visit the internet.

Mr Kilema who appears to be an “expert” on ailments that can be cured by urophagia exudes a lot confidence as he goes about his business on the dos and don’ts of urine therapy.

He attests that if a childless couple wants to have children, they will only need to take their own urine each for six months, abstain from sex for the same duration of time, eat a well balanced diet, lead a stress-free life, avoid milk and over the counter drugs and reduce meat intake.

According to Mr Kilema, patients need to separate containers used for urine from other household utensils.

“They should not let other family members use those containers. Even if husband and wife are both on urine therapy, each should use his or her own container,” said Mr Kilema.

The urine therapy has specific dosage and time for every ailment.
