Mombasa,Kenya:An Administration Police officer was killed in a shoot-out during an attempted robbery at a security firm in Mombasa.

The shoot out led to the killing of three people: the AP officer, a security guard with Wells Fargo and a third person police allege masterminded the robbery.

A second police officer sustained serious gun injuries and is currently at the Pandya Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

Witnesses said five gunmen entered the firm’s offices at Kenya Railways area at around 2.45am posing as Wells Fargo employees and donning their uniform but once inside, they opened fire at the company’s guards.

The gangsters easily tricked AP officers outside the office with the uniform and parcel they claimed they had come to deliver and gained entrance into  the building.

According to the Provincial Criminal Investigations Officer (PCIO) for Coast province Ambrose Munyasia the slain officer was killed when the shoot out erupted with other AP officers killing one attacker and recovering a pistol and 11 bullets.

“So far we have arrested one suspect whom we strongly believe could have been the mastermind of the robbery. He is an employee of a security firm and we are positive that he is going to give the police information that could lead to the arrest of the other suspects who escaped,” said Munyasia.
