Kajiado County eyes beef export market

KAJIADO COUNTY: the county government is seeking to scale up livestock production as it eyes the export market. The county has announced completion of Sh10 million Imbirikani Slaughterhouse, the first export abattoir in the county.

“We have completed a modern export slaughterhouse at Imbirikani at a cost of Sh10 million targeting the export market,” said Dr David Nkedianye, Kajiado County Governor.

This comes a week after East African Legislative Assembly, Kenyan chapter, announced that the multimillion World Bank funded Namanga Regional Animal Quarantine facility that is part of the One Stop Border Post is set for completion. It will positively affect the livestock sector in the region.

“The quarantine station in Namanga is in progress by East Africa Agricultural Productivity (EAAP) for purposes of testing of animals crossing the border into our county to make Kajiado livestock a disease free zone,” said the governor.

While officiating the Kajiado County Agribusiness Trade Fair on Friday, the governor said his government is determined to revitalise the livestock sector which is the mainstay of most locals in the area. “We are also rehabilitating the yards at Emali, Kimana, Rombo, Mile 46 and Ilbissil trading centres,” said Nkedianye, adding that his government has since spent Sh12.1 million on the move.
