Wajir High rules in soccer and basketball in stunning Wajir East school games

The event which drew participants from numerous secondary schools across the region showcased exceptional talent and fostered a spirit of healthy competition.

The games featured a variety of sports, including football, volleyball, athletics, and basketball. Students from different schools competed vigorously, demonstrating their skills and teamwork.

The games were held over several days at various venues, culminating in an exciting finale that saw enthusiastic participation and support from the local community.

In recognition of the achievements, the Siyad Foundation also donated trophies to the winners and provided medals and kits to all finalists, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and encouragement among the participants.

Mr Alibash Mohamed, the Chairman of the Kenya Secondary Schools Association in Wajir East highlighted the importance of the event saying, "These games are more than just a competition. They provide a platform for students to showcase their talents, build friendships, and learn the values of discipline and teamwork".

He said it has actively engaged in initiatives aimed at preventing youth radicalization and deterring them from joining extremist groups.

"Our Patron Siyad Hassan has consistently expressed his unwavering commitment to supporting the county's youth, who are often adversely affected by drug abuse and unemployment. He has assured them of a brighter future, emphasizing the foundation's dedication to their well-being and growth," said Mr Mohamed.

Mr Dekow Mohamed who is the Wajir High School coach praised the initiative saying the games had brought the community together.

"It's inspiring to see our students excel and gain recognition for their hard work. This event has motivated many young people to pursue sports alongside their academic studies," he said.
