Kogi wins Chairman's prize in Nanyuki

Earlybird William Kogi returned a compact score of 40 stableford points to win the 2023 Nanyuki Sports Club Chairman (Kuldip Hunjan) prize over the weekend.

Kogi steered himself to victory after showing up earlier than usual to avoid the rainstorms that have been pounding the area recently.

Playing off handicap 22, sank four pars, seven bogeys, six double-bogeys, and a single triple-bogey to combine 18 and 22 stableford points to beat a field of 75 golfers who graced the daylong meet presented by 65-year-old paintmaker- Crown Paints Limited and Homework Supplies.

"It is a special win for me after four years. Especially playing so early which is very unlike me. I usually play around midday but for this tournament, I opted to come in early to avoid being rained on and here we are, as the saying goes, "The early bird catches the worm, I caught it!" Kogi said.

The men's winner prize went to a handicap 19, Peter Karare on a score of 37 stableford points. Outgoing Captain, William Njoroge playing handicap 20 took the men's winner second prize as Joe Wainaina playing off handicap 24 settled for the men's winner third on a score of 35 stableford points.

Topping in the ladies' section was Purity Githui as the Lady winner on a score of 40 stableford points playing off handicap 20.

Shooting the lowest Gross score was Charles Rob on 81 Gross.

Best among the visiting golfers was Albert Gatumo from Sigona Golf Club playing off handicap 16 who returned a score of 37 stableford points to lift the Guest winner prize. Nyeri Club's youngster, Vihaan Khilan playing off handicap 28, posted one of the best scores for the day of 37 stableford points to win the Junior prize.

In category B, Mwaniki Mwariri playing off handicap 30 carded 28 stableford points to take Men winner prize with handicap 53, and Beatrice Wanjohi won the ladies' prize.

First Nine prize went to Patrick Ekwam with 20 stableford points while David Wachira - T9 picked the Second Nine prize with 19 stableford points.

In the commercials, Gabriel Miungi won the Longest Drive Men prize, Stella Mwangi claimed the Longest Drive Ladies prize and Alice Kamau took home the Best Effort prize.

Only two twos were registered during the meet by Patrick Karani and Wachira Keen both on the par-three third hole with each winning 26 golf balls.
